Sun, 11 March 2007 Today's podcast is the first part of an interview arranged by long-time listener Nancy Linn. The interview took place last Sunday and it really felt like I was sitting around a kitchen table talking to Nancy and her two friends Carolyn and Karen. We had so much fun chatting that we didn't realize that we had talked for almost an hour and half! Enjoy! Comments[1] |

Tue, 15 August 2006 Response to Wall Street Journal Article About Well Fitting Clothes~ An article in last week's Wall Street Journal featured women's frustration at not being able to find clothes that fit off of the rack. Executives are starting to turn to high end tailors to make clothes that fit. It got me thinking that I don't have to worry about whether clothes fit off the rack or not because I sew! Comments[0] |
Sun, 9 July 2006 My Vacation Mini-Wardrobe Sewing~ Are you like me and start making something with a deadline looming? Two days before we left on our vacation, I decided to make new outfits for the vacation. While whipping up a batch of brownies (which turned out delicious, by the way), I share with you the results of this endeavor and tell you about my current projects. In the process, I also review Butterick B4290. Comments[0] |
Sun, 25 June 2006 Last week I mentioned that I had recorded a conversation with my older
sister, fiber artist June Mears Driedger, but that the technology was
all askew. Thanks to the help of my friend Jim, we were able to
salvage it. During the interview, June starts discussing what she is
currently working on...a series dedicated to her recent hysterectomy.
I was deeply moved by it and I believe you will be, too. I'm off on my vacation. When I get back I'll share with you my sewing marathon to create a mini-wardrobe for the trip. Sun, 18 June 2006 I recorded a great interview with my older sister who, in addition to being an ordained minister, is a fiber artist. The technology gods don't want me to interview any of my siblings, apparently, because the recording was all messed up. *sigh* So, today's podcast simply is about me making a mock-neck sleeveless top and trying to get away without making the full bust adjustment. Listen to find out how it worked out... Comments[0] |
Sun, 11 June 2006 I've had a really bad sewing day. My border print skirt (which you can see at my blog http://grandmassewingcabinet.blogspot.com) emphasizes my "hip fluff" with the result that I look like I should be out yodeling somewhere. This week's podcast describes my really bad sewing day. I'm also facilitating a Virtual Sewing Retreat: My Stash Is A Reflection of Me. Sun, 28 May 2006 A Conversation With My Friend Colleen and My Adventures in Pattern Adjustments Thanks to the holiday weekend, I am having a semi-sewing extravaganza weekend. It was going to just be sewing, sewing, and more sewing, but I had to take more breaks to get other stuff done than I thought I would need to do. In today's podcast, I update you on the projects I'm working on and have a conversation with my friend Colleen about her sewing adventures. Don't forget the blog at http://grandmassewingcabinet.blogspot.com Comments[3] |
Mon, 22 May 2006 Ah, technology. It can make our life easier, or make it more frustrating. Last week I promised to have an interview with my youngest sister about sewing. I had a great conversation with her. Too bad you won't hear it. The software only recorded HER half of the conversation...and again when we tried it again. Ah, well. I did find a snippet of the conversation that I could share with you where she doesn't sound like she is carrying on a conversation with no one else. I also share with you how you can use a burn test to determine fiber content if you are unsure of the fabric. Comments[0] |
Sun, 14 May 2006 I love vintage dress patterns. In this episode, I browse through a box of vintage patterns I inherited from my Great-grandmother Daisy and discover that my Grandmother Lois' patterns would fit me. But, do I really want to wear the same clothes my grandmother wore? Comments[0] |
Sun, 7 May 2006 I finally convinced My Honey to help me create a paper-tape fitting double. Problem was, I couldn't find any paper tape. So we decided to try papier-mache. To see photos of this adventure, go to http://grandmassewingcabinet.blogspot.com Comments[0] |
Sun, 30 April 2006 This is the inaugural episode of my podcast about fashion sewing. I'll talk about what I'm working on, peruse through my vintage stuff, and, perhaps, do an interview or two. The name of this podcast is derived from the fact that I am using the sewing machine cabinet that my grandfather made for my grandmother a long time ago. I do hope you'll enjoy the show!
